Prices of essential kitchen items have witnessed a mixed trend during this week past against the preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday. The survey observed a slight increase in the prices of onions, potatoes and tomatoes as onions were available at Rs 140 per 5kg against Rs 120 per 5kg in wholesales market while in retail market they were being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 30-35 per kg, potato at Rs 120 per 5kg against Rs 90 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 30 per kg against Rs 25 per kg. Tomatoes price witnessed a decline from Rs 120 per 5kg to Rs 100 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 30 per kg against Rs 35 per kg.
Garlic prices witnessed a reduction as local garlic price went down from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 230 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 65 per kg against Rs 70 per kg, price of Quetta garlic went down from Rs 400 per 5kg to Rs 370 per 5kg which in retail was being sold at Rs 90 per kg against Rs 100 per kg, while Chinese garlic price remained stable at Rs 450 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 130 per kg. Ginger price remained stable at Rs 600 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 160-175 per kg. Lemon price went up from Rs 800 per 5kg to Rs 1,100 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 260 per kg against Rs 210 per kg.
No significant changes were observed in the prices of all the non-perishable items especially pulses, cooking oil, spices and other kitchen specific items as white lentil (Maash) was being sold at Rs120 per kg, good quality grams at Rs 170 per kg, kidney bean (Lobia) in the range of Rs 100-120 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs 100 per kg and red lentil (Masoor) was being sold at Rs 100 per kg.
Live chicken price in wholesales market went down from Rs 6,000 per 40kg to Rs 5,700 per 40 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 175 per kg against Rs 190 per kg, and chicken meat was being sold at Rs 300 per kg. The eggs prices in wholesale market remained stable at Rs 84 per dozen which in retail market were being sold at Rs 92-95 per dozen. The survey noted no changes in mutton and beef prices which during the past weekend increased, as boneless beef was being sold at Rs 480 per kg while mutton at Rs 920 per kg.
Capsicum price went down from Rs175 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg in wholesale market which in retail market was sold at Rs 45-35 per kg against Rs 45-50 per kg; peas went up from Rs 270 per 5kg to Rs 280 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 75 per kg against Rs 70 per kg; taro (arvi) price remained stable at Rs 220 per 5kg which in retail was being sold at Rs 50-55 per kg; carrot prices remained stable at Rs 170 per 5 kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 45-50 per kg; and price of a pack of 8kg radish remained stable at Rs 170 per pack which in retail market was being sold at Rs 35 per kg.
Bean price slightly went up from Rs 225 per 5kg to Rs 230 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 65 per kg against Rs 60 per kg, okra price went down from Rs 280 per 5kg to Rs 260 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 65 per kg against Rs 70 per kg, price of ridge gourd (tori) remained stable at Rs 250 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 60-70 per kg. Turnip went down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 160 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 50 per kg, Maroo kadu went down from Rs 120 per 5kg to Rs 100 per 5kg which in retail being sold at Rs 25-30 per kg against Rs 35 per kg, cauliflower price remained stable at Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 35 per kg and cabbage price also witnessed no change which is available at Rs 120 per 5kg while in retail market was being sold Rs 35 per kg.
Brinjal price went down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40-35 per kg against per kg Rs 50 per kg, cucumber price went down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 160 per 5kg which in retail was being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 55-60 per kg.
Fruit prices also witnessed an increase as good quality local banana was available at Rs 200 per dozen against Rs 150 per dozen, normal quality in the range of Rs 120-150 per dozen and Indian banana at Rs 250 per dozen against Rs 225 per dozen. Good quality guava was available at Rs 90 per kg and normal quality guava was in the range of Rs 60-70 per kg.
Cherry was available at Rs 350 per kg and Chinese pear at Rs 210 per kg. Normal quality white apple was being sold at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 100 per kg, Pakistani Kala Kalu apple at Rs 175 per kg against Rs 160 per kg, Iranian Kala Kalu apple at Rs 190 per kg against Rs 175 per kg, golden apple at Rs 120 per kg, ambari apple at Rs 90 per kg against Rs 80 per kg, while Chinese and other imported apples were being sold in the range of Rs 300-320 per kg against Rs 200-295 per kg.
Melon was being sold at Rs 40 per kg, water melon at Rs 20-25 per kg, white melon at Rs 40 per kg, loquat at Rs 90 per kg against Rs 110 per kg and various qualities of peach at Rs 80-130 per kg. New arrival mangoes were available at Rs 200-250 per kg, plump at Rs 200 per kg, papaya at Rs 170 per kg, Pakistani dates at Rs 150 per kg and Iranian dates were available at Rs 200 per kg.
