Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued show-cause notice to all-rounder Muhammad Hafeez regarding his remarks about the International Cricket Council's (ICC) rules and regulations pertaining to bowling action. The show-cause notice was served upon Muhammad Hafeez for violating code of conduct. The PCB has asked the former skipper Hafeez to submit his reply within seven days over his controversial statement.
Hafeez was allowed bowling in international cricket after remodeling action. He was banned from bowling over his suspicious action which was reported in October last year against Sri Lanka. Hafeez was also pointed out for his 'doubtful bowling action' in November 2014 and June 2015. Hafeez declared ICC's laws unfair because their implications are different for the powerful and weak. He further stated that he is unable to understand that how is it possible to identify the difference of 1 degree in bowling actions through human eye.
Hafeez questioned about those international bowlers whose actions are clearly violating ICC rules and regulations but they have never faced any restrictions like him. 'Professor' had also demanded ICC to declare bio-mechanic test for all bowlers as a rule to end the discrimination. Hafeez claimed that he could not understand why his bowling action was declared illegal when he had a 16 degree bend, but bowlers who have 25 or 30 degree bends are not being reported.
On April 17, Hafeez underwent a re-assessment of his bowling action at the Loughborough University where it was revealed that the amount of elbow extension in his bowling action was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations. Hafeez was first suspended from bowling in December 2014 after he was reported in November 2014 during a Test series. Following remedial work on his bowling action, he was re-assessed and permitted to resume bowling in April 2015. Hafeez was then suspended from bowling in July 2015 for 12 months following a second suspension within 24 months. He was re-assessed and permitted to resume bowling in November 2016. He was reported for the third time during the Abu Dhabi ODI against Sri Lanka in October 2017, and was subsequently suspended from bowling in November 2017.
The claims of Hafeez have landed the veteran all-rounder in hot water and he now has 14 days to respond to the PCB's show-cause notice.
