Taking serious notice of low gas pressure in the city, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration Wednesday ordered closure of CNG stations 10 hours a day to facilitate domestic consumers. According to a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Captain Mushtaq Ahmed (retd), huge amount of the CNG is used as a fuel for vehicles which causes gas shortage for domestic consumers.
"In my opinion there are sufficient grounds for proceedings under Section 144 of CrPC to prohibit use of the CNG as a fuel for vehicles at mentioned times within the revenue and territorial limits of Islamabad district," it said. It further said that to provide immediate relief to the public at large, the direction thereinafter appearing are necessary to be issued.
"The district magistrate in exercise of powers conferred on me under Section 144 of CrPC does hereby prohibit sale of the CNG at CNG stations as a fuel for the vehicles from 5:00am to 10:00am and from 5:00pm to 10:00pm." The order will come into force from December 28 and shall remain in force for a period of two months. An official said that a team of ICT administration will monitor the situation and take action against the violators in this regard. It is noteworthy here that there are a total of 88 CNG stations in the federal capital.
Chairman All Pakistan CNG Association, Ghiyas Paracha stated, "We consider the Islamabad administration's move as unnecessary and wrong for keeping the gas stations closed from 5:00am to 10:00am and from 5:00pm to 10:00pm." After long struggle, he said, the purpose of achieving the excessive quantity of gas will meet. He alleged that the administration did not contact Ministry of Petroleum, Sui Northern Gas Company Limited and association before taking the decision.
