The Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) and different police stations recovered 115 stolen vehicles, including motorbikes, valuing Rs 77.3 million during the current year, said senior superintendent of police (SSP) on Wednesday. Addressing a press conference here, SSP Sajid Kiyani said that the city police have recovered 115 stolen vehicles including bikes during the current year, besides arresting a score of carjackers wanted in different cases. He also handed over keys of 40 stolen vehicles and 23 motorbikes to their owners.
The SSP said that car lifting issue is one of the challenging tasks for the police, adding that the city police have been making all-out endeavours to overcome it. Besides the ACLC, different police stations of the city also recovered stolen vehicles in the current year and busted an inter-provincial gang involved in car lifting.
He said that the police also recovered 10,080 grams hashish, 106 bottles of wine, 95 cans of beer and four 30-bore pistols.
The incidents of car and bike lifting remained at peak in the year 2014, as 766 vehicles and 442 motorbikes were lifted during the year, he told. More efforts are being made to control the crime and ensure more recovery as 76 vehicles and 16 bikes were recovered in 2015 and 90 vehicles and 10 bikes in 2016, he added.
