Three goals by Ahmed Ali Tiwana helped Newage defeat Army by 4-3 in the Samba Bank Lahore (SBL) Open Polo Championship 2017 match played here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground on Monday. Besides Ahmed Ali's tremendous three goals, Adnan Jalil Azam struck the remaining one goal in Newage's triumph. Army players also displayed quality polo skills and tried their best to match the pace of Newage players, but finally, they lost the match by just one goal margin. From Army, Luis Mighal Duggan scored a brace and Major Adil Rao contributed one.
The first chukker saw Newage scoring the only goal of the chukker through Adnan Jalil Azam to take 1-0 lead. Ahmed Ali enhanced Newage's lead to 2-0 when he fired a field goal. Ahmed Ali continued his good form in the third chukker as well as he converted a 60-yard penalty to further stretch his team's lead to 3-0. Army opened their account in the mid of the third chukker when Luis Mighal scored a field goal to make it 3-1.
In the fourth and last chukker, Army thwarted another goal through Major Adil Rao to close the gap to 3-2. But Ahmed Ali once again left all his opponents behind and successfully pumped in an impressive field goal to stretch their lead to 4-2. In the dying moments of the match, Army players started playing aggressive polo, which helped them convert a field goal to reduce the margin to 4-3, but they couldn't score further goals, thus lost the match 3-4.
