Customs department confiscated foreign currency worth over Rs 31 million during the calendar year 2017, said sources. According to the details, the confiscated amount included $261,000, 28000 Japanese Yen, 15000 UK Pounds and other currencies. The confiscation in 2017 is 60 percent higher than the corresponding year, they added.
Similarly, the Customs authorities had also foiled efforts of smuggling and collected Rs 49.25 million throughout the year. They have also recovered liquor worth Rs 19.18 million in 2017 and confiscated 3236 bottles at the airport. According to the officials, 3097 cellular phones worth Rs 61.94 were also recovered during the year.
