Discount mania has hit the city yet again as colourful banners advertise 20 to 70 percent off on all winter and other readymade garments to attract a huge set of customers. A shopkeeper told that they are offering big discount to attract buyers for offloading maximum number of winter stock in a clearance sale due to rising temperature in the city. A visit of various markets indicates that the shopkeepers are not expecting a big number of customers due to recent increase in temperature.
Leading brands are offering a range of discounts at their outlets and independent retailers are also clearing their winter and old stocks, but pleasant weather has stopped many in the city to shop for their winter wardrobes. Another major factor behind low sale is the depressed buying capacity of the general public due to high inflation. "We did a good business few days back due to cold winds and dropped temperature in the city, now with the increase in mercury, sale has dropped severely," a shopkeeper told at Saddar area.
All kinds of wears and accessories having tag of 20 to 70 percent discount including, men, ladies and children garments, gloves, hats, mufflers, pullovers, shirts and jackets are seen hanging in front of shops. There is a large number of shopping points in the city including Tariq Road, Haidery, Sadder, Nazimabad, Gulshan etc which are offering seasonal sales and considerable discount on shopping. It is no wonder that these sales and discounts offer much predictable opportunity to the lower income groups of society to buy clothes and other accessories at affordable price.
