India informed Pakistan on Saturday that the mother and wife of Commander Kulbhushan Jadhav, a convicted RAW agent will arrive tomorrow (Monday) to meet him, Foreign Office said. "India informs that the mother and wife of Commander Jadhav will arrive by commercial flight on 25 December and leave the same day", Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal tweeted. He said that Indian deputy high commissioner in Islamabad will be accompanying Jadhav's family during the meeting.
Earlier, he stated that the meeting will take place at Ministry of Foreign Affairs on humanitarian grounds. Diplomatic sources have confirmed that the Foreign Office will issue pictures and a video of the meeting between the Indian spy and his family. India had earlier stated that Jadhav's father and mother expressed the desire to meet their son, but the prisoner had requested authorities to allow his wife to visit him.
The Foreign Office also plans to issue special passes to media representatives for interaction with the family of Jadhav after their meeting. However, the Indian response in this regard was not yet known. On Thursday, Dr Faisal said that the Foreign Office is waiting for India's decision in this regard. He also dismissed the possibility of immediate execution of the convicted spy, saying that Jadhav is under no threat of immediate execution and his mercy petitions are still pending.
Jadhav, the Indian spy, who was an on-duty officer for the Indian Navy, confessed to his crimes in a recorded video statement televised by the army last year following his arrest. After his trial in a military court, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa confirmed the death sentence awarded by the Field General Court Martial under the Pakistan Army Act. On April 2016, Pakistan sentenced the RAW agent to death for involving in espionage and sabotage activities in the country.
