Over 4.3million children below age of five, will be administrated vaccines during the upcoming three day anti-polio drive in high-risk districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which will formally begin from December 18.
In this connection, a review meeting for upcoming anti-polio campaign of Emergency Operation Centre Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, chaired by EOC Coordinator Atif Rehman here on Friday. Besides, UNICEF team leader Dr Johar Khan, BMGF Dr Imtiaz Ali Shah, Representative WHO Dr Abidi Nasir, officials of relevant authorities and departments were attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that the anti-polio campaign would be launched in more than 17 high risk districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from (Monday) December 18. It said over around 4.3million children, including 40,086 Afghan refugees children under age of five will be vaccinated during the immunization campaign.
For which, the meeting told that a total 13,704 teams have constituted, including 11,690 mobile, 1074 fixed and 208 roaming teams to ensure the achievement of cent percent targets of the drive, whereas 732 transits points have also been set up at various places to ensure polio drops to children on travel.
The meeting said the performance of the polio teams will be monitored under supervision of area in-charge. It was informed that a comprehensive security plan has chalked for the protection of polio teams in the province. The meeting said more than 20,000 police personals would be deputed on duties during the three day anti-polio drive.
On the occasion, EOC Atif Rehman while reiterating his government's commitment to eradicate poliovirus from the province directed the authorities to utilize all the available resources to ensure cent percent results of the campaign. He further directed the authorities to pay special attention to the areas where refusal cases are reported and asked them to visit such areas personally and involve the local elected representatives and Ulemas to convince the parents to get their children immunized against the poliovirus.
