A top Taliban leader and the shadow governor of Afghanistan's Kunduz province has been killed in a US airstrike, the Taliban confirmed Monday. Mullah Abdul Salam "was targeted by the US invaders' airstrike in Dasht-e-Arche district of Kunduz province" a Taliban statement said. Salam was killed along with nine other Taliban fighters during the strike, said Dawlat Waziri, a spokesman for the Afghan defence ministry.
"Beside playing important role in the collapse of Kunduz city, Mullah Abdul Salam was normally taking part in operations against Afghan security forces in neighbouring provinces as well," Waziri said.
