Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Friday that Imran Khan was in a hurry otherwise the PPP was not in competition with the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf being an opposition party. "We are a genuine political party and not in competition with any other political party," he added. He was responding to media queries after attending a meeting of zonal heads in the provincial metropolis regarding preparations for participation in the death anniversary of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto on December 27.
He said the PPP had suggested Imran Khan that approaching the Supreme Court on Panama Papers would not serve the purpose but he failed to understand it. "We are still of the view that the Parliament is the appropriate forum to deal with the situation." He also reminded Imran Khan that he was signatory of the joint ToRs of opposition parties.
He advised the government either to concede to the four demands of the PPP before the deadline of December 27 or get ready to face a mass movement under Bilawal Bhutto. "Only Bilawal Bhutto would announce future strategy on December 27 in case the government failed to meet four demands which may be an announcement of a countrywide protest," he said.
He also criticised the conduct of the Speaker National Assembly, saying that the Parliament was supreme and it was the right forum to table a privilege motion against the contradictions in multiple addresses of the Prime Minister. "The Prime Minister has committed contempt of the House by telling a lie at the forum of Parliament," he emphasised.
To a question, he said, the PPP would not hesitate to take to streets in case the government failed to pass the Panama Inquiry Commission bill from the National Assembly after its passage from the Senate with a clear majority. He clarified that the PPP had earlier approached all political parties of the opposition for formulation of terms of reference and it would again invite all parties to join them in movement against the corruption of government. He expressed solidarity with the relatives of martyrs of Army Public School and demanded early implementation of the National Action Plan to get rid of the menace of terrorism.
