The General Assembly of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences on Monday ratified the results of the IAS Fellowship Elections for the years 2013-2016 and Pakistan has again attained its representation for the said years. One of the winners of the IAS Fellowship elections is Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari, Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Quaid-i-Azam University and Secretary General, Pakistan Academy of Sciences, who is now a newly elected "Fellow of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences, said a statement.
The Islamic World Academy of Sciences is an International Scientific Organisation that was founded by the heads of state of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) in 1986 to assist the Countries to realise socio-economic advancement through the prudent use of Science and Technology.
IAS is based in Amman (Jordan) and fully supported by government of Jordan; it is also an advisory body on scientific matters that has been designated as the voice of Science in the OIC. The membership of the IAS is made up of Founding and elected Fellows who are eminent scientists of distinction who have achieved the highest academic honours in their countries and internationally.
IAS Fellowship represents more than 35 nationalities, and between them represent numerous educational, scientific as well as research and development institutions. Dr Shinwari pledges to serve the Ummah in transforming it into knowledge economy. He wishes to focus on innovation of Research to see the Ummah to attain highest place in the world.
