Rs 5 billion corruption case: non-bailable arrest warrants for Sharjeel, others issued

Accountability Court on Saturday again issued non-bailable warrant for arrest of former Sindh Informer Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and other accused in the Rs 5 billion corruption reference. The court while re-issuing the arrest warrant of the accused directed them to appear before the court on next hearing on December 3, 2016.
The accountability court heard corruption reference against Sharjeel Memon and others accused on charges of misuse of power and authority and embezzlement in distribution of government advertisements amounting to Rs 5 billion. The court provided copies of the reference to the accused. Zulfiqar Ali Shalwani and Mansoor Ahmed, other co-accused in the Rs 5 billion corruption case.
The PPP leader is living in self-exile in London for over a year after law-enforcement agencies launched a crackdown against politicians and bureaucrats on various corruption cases. The NAB had filed a corruption reference against Memon, other information department officials and advertising companies' representatives for illegalities in the process of awarding contracts worth over Rs 5 billion for official Sindh government awareness campaigns for the electronic media.
