The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted a major intelligence-based operation in a border area of Attock, killing five dangerous terrorists, Aaj News reported on Tuesday.
A CTD spokesperson said an intense exchange of fire took place between the terrorists and CTD personnel during the operation. “The terrorists opened fire in an attempt to target the CTD team, prompting the force to respond effectively,” the official said.
As a result of the retaliatory action, the spokesperson said, five terrorists were killed. Weapons, explosives, and hand grenades were also recovered from their possession, he added.
The CTD stated that the slain terrorists had been planning terrorist attacks in Punjab. Sensitive intelligence regarding their activities had been received, which led to the intelligence-based operation.
The spokesperson added that a search operation is still underway in Attock’s border regions to apprehend possible facilitators and any suspects who may have escaped.
According to the CTD, the process of identifying the deceased terrorists has begun, while further investigations are continuing.
Officials said operations would continue uninterrupted to maintain law and order in the province and thwart terrorist threats.
Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the CTD for its successful operation against Fitna-al-Khawarij terrorists in Attock district.
The prime minister lauded the CTD for eliminating five terrorists during the operation, the PM Office said.
“Security forces, police, and the CTD are achieving significant successes in the war against terrorism,” the prime minister said, adding that the nation is determined to completely eliminate all forms of terrorism from the country.
