Prices of essential kitchen items especially vegetables, chicken, eggs, sugar and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) have witnessed a significant increase during this past week as compared to preceding week, reveals a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Saturday.
Good quality ghee/cooking oil brands like Dalda price went up from Rs 820 per 5 kg tin to Rs 850 per 5 kg tin, eggs from Rs 90 per dozen to Rs 100 per dozen in the wholesale market which in the retail market are being sold at Rs 110 per dozen against Rs 100 per dozen.
LPG prices were twice increased during the week under review, from Rs 105 per kg to Rs 115 per kg and a domestic cylinder from Rs 1,160 to Rs 1,270 per domestic cylinder of 11.8 kg. Sugar price went up from Rs 3,470 per 50 kg bag to Rs 3,700 per 50 kg bag in the wholesale market which in retail market is available at Rs 77 per kg against Rs 75 per kg, chicken prices in the wholesale market went up from Rs 4,400 per 40 kg to Rs 5,000 per 40 kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 150 per kg against Rs 130 per kg, while chicken meat is available at Rs 300 per kg.
According to survey, tomatoes price in the wholesale market jumped from Rs 250 per 5 kg to Rs 300 per 5 kg which in the retail market are being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 60 per kg, best quality potatoes (fresh arrival) jumped to Rs 200 per 5 kg from Rs 170 per 5 kg, while normal quality from Rs 120 per 5 kg to Rs 140 per 5 kg, which in the retail market are being sold at Rs 50/40 per kg. Onions prices witnessed an increase of Rs 30 per 5 kg from Rs 130 per 5 kg to Rs 160 per kg in the wholesales market which in the retail market are being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 35 per kg. Ginger price remained stable at Rs 500 per 5 kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 120 per kg, garlic was also found to be stable at Rs 1,300 per 5 kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 300 per kg.
Brinjal price went up from Rs 200 per 5 kg to Rs 300 per 5 kg which in the retail market are available at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 50 per kg while carrot price came down from Rs 300 per 5 kg to Rs 200 per 5 kg which in the retail market is being sold Rs 60 per kg against Rs 100 per kg while cucumber price reduced from Rs 300 per 5 kg to Rs 200 per kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 70 per kg.
Peas prices witnessed an increase from Rs 500 per 5 kg to Rs 600 per 5 kg which in the retail market are being sold at Rs 130 per kg against 150 per kg, Maru kadu price remained stable at Rs 300 per 5 kg, which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 70 per kg. Karaila rate reduced from Rs 500 per 5 kg to Rs 350 per 5 kg which is being sold at Rs 90 per kg against Rs 120 per kg in the retail market.
Good quality tinda price came down from Rs 600 per 5 kg to Rs 450 per 5 kg and normal quality tinda price went up from Rs 250 per 5 kg to Rs 300 per 5 kg. Good quality tinda is being sold at Rs 100 per kg against 150 per kg while normal quality at Rs 70 per kg in the retail market. Arvi price increased from Rs 250 per 5 kg to Rs 300 per 5 kg, which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 60 per kg.
Capsicum price went up from Rs 500 per 5 kg to Rs 800 per 5 kg, which is being sold at Rs 200 per kg against Rs 120. Okra price went up from Rs 300 per 5 kg to Rs 350 per 5 kg in the wholesale market which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 70 per kg.
The survey observed that the prices of non-perishable essential kitchen items including rice, pulses, wheat flour, spices and others remained stable. Dal moong is being sold at Rs 140 per kg, lobia at 120 per kg, Masoor at Rs 145 per kg, dal channa at Rs 150 per kg and Kabali channa at Rs 170 per kg.
Wheat flour price also remained stable at Rs 740 per 20 kg bag, Lipton yellow label tea a kg pack price at Rs 670 per kg, good quality ghee/cooking oil is being sold at Rs 820 per 5 kg and good quality rice per 25 kg bag at Rs 2,500 which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 120 per kg.
Prices of most of fruits during the week under review witnessed mixed trend as good quality local banana is being sold at Rs 80 per dozen, and normal quality at Rs 50 per dozen, new arrival pomegranates at Rs 100 per kg, guava at Rs 70 per kg and best quality grapes at Rs 180 per kg against Rs 200 per kg while normal quality at Rs 120 per kg. Normal quality apple is available at Rs 70 per kg and best quality at Rs 280 per kg and pear is available at Rs 120 per kg.
