Education and rural development

Published November 6, 2016 Updated November 6, 2016 12:00am

Rural development implies the economic betterment of people as well as greater social transformation. In the developing countries like ours, the most of the population resides in rural areas. This fact signifies that there is a drastic need of education among those areas in order to develop them. When the rural development is done, it helps in the overall uplift of the country. In urban areas the illiteracy ratio is less but in rural areas it is very high. This is because of the lack of awareness among the people and their false priorities. They just want to earn their living and that's it. This is, however, not the case if they study the long-term happenings. Education not only assists and advances in current happenings but also makes available the resources that are needed for the development.
As per a study and observation, it can be observed that certain initiatives could be taken that help in better attraction among the rural population towards education. The curriculum of rural education can be updated and should accompany education related to farming, gardening as Pakistan is an agricultural country. To attract a greater number of students, visual aids like projectors, television, etc., can be used to show some educational movies. Another need is to motivate the teachers; they should be made to feel proud that by teaching in the rural or remote area they are acting as a helping hand in the development of economy. However, some special sessions or classes can be conducted for parents to make them realise the significance of education for their children. All of these can contribute towards development and the parents will also get to know that their children if educated can help in the development of the country in an efficient and meaningful manner.
