Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique has directed all concerned government departments and agencies to continue their dengue control activities during the Eid holidays and special attention should be focused on outdoor and indoor surveillance and vector control activities.
He said, "Recent rains have increased the chances of dengue breeding and the next two months are very important with regard to dengue. Full public participation is the basic need for effective control on this problem."
The Advisor was chairing a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Dengue at the Civil Secretariat on Tuesday. All officers and DCOs gave briefings about the ongoing anti-dengue activities, outdoor and indoor dengue surveillance, monitoring of graveyards, junkyards, tyre shops, construction sites and other places.
DCO Lahore Capt Mohammad Usman (retd) informed that as compare to the previous year, double dengue larvae was being detected that year especially from the houses during surveillance; however, due to better surveillance and steps taken by the government, dengue was well controlled in Lahore and only eight confirmed dengue cases had so far been reported that year in the city.
He said dengue cases had increased in Rawalpindi but because of good patient management by doctors in public hospitals, all patients were recovering. "Doctors are taking care of these patients in a very professional manner according to the SOPs."
He warned that no negligence would be shown in dengue surveillance during the holidays, especially in Rawalpindi, to overcome dengue outbreak in the city. He directed special dengue surveillance be conducted in open grounds where large gatherings of Eid prayers would take place and cleanliness of graveyards.
