Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Media Advocacy Centre (MAC) here on Friday to train skilled manpower in media related courses. Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Shaikh and his counterpart Sikandar Hameed Lodhi signed the agreement at the Tevta Secretariat.
The agreement will provide well equipped human resource for the media industry. These three-month media training short courses including cameraman, non-linear editor and control room operator and will be initiated as a pilot project at the Government College of Technology Printing and Graphic Art Lahore and other training institutes may be added in the future with mutual consent of both organisations to fulfil the demand of industry.
In his speech, Chairperson Tevta said, "Tevta will provide the space and training supplies and material for the pilot project and pay to MAC to provide faculty, master trainers to train students and Tevta faculty and arranging for any differential of machinery and equipment not available at Tevta. Course contents available with MAC will be shared with Tevta for development of suitable courses on remuneration. The three-month duration short courses will be offered to the public with the entry level of Intermediate and Matric examination and certification will be provided through the Trade Testing Board and the Punjab Board of Technical Education."
His MAC counterpart said, "Owing to the accelerated boom in media industry by introduction of new channels and media groups, the industry is facing shortage of technical staff such as well-trained cameraman, editors and operators. Recognising the gap between demand and supply of trained manpower for the media industry collaboration of Tevta will help us to overcome this manpower gap. MAC will assist Tevta in designing and launching the marketing campaign for these courses and will make prime efforts in job placement of passing out students, ensuring maximum employment of trainees in the industry in Lahore." Tevta Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmad Qureshi, office-bearers of MAC Chairman Sikandar Lodhi, Rao Shahid, Zubair Ahmad, Tevta General Managers Abdul Qayum, Azhar Iqbal Shad, Akhtar Abbas Bharwana and Ejaz Hamid and R&D Director Dr Iftikhar Hussain Shah also present on the occasion.
