Android 5.0 woes: Memory encryption can slow smartphone

Users of the newest Android version 5.0 (Lollipop) might have to make a choice between security and speed. Anyone who opts for Full Disk Encryption (FDE) is going to have to tolerate a phone that is significantly slower reading and storing data, according to a test of Google's newest smartphone, the Nexus 6, posted on technology portal anandtech.com. The test focused on performance with and without encryption, registering differences of speed of between 50 and 80 per cent.
