IHC grants time to federation for reply in contempt of court plea against Nawaz Sharif   

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Monday submitted its reply to Islamabad High Court (IHC) in a case seeking contempt of court proceeding against former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for controversial speeches.

The court, however, directed the federation to submit its reply within two weeks regarding the matter.

Justice Aamer Farooq of IHC resumed hearing of case regarding controversial speeches of Nawaz Sharif.

During the hearing, Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Raja Khalid Mehmood appeared before the court in compliance of court directives.

The bench observed that the Ministry of Information had not submitted its reply so far despite of three court notices.

The DAG requested the court to grant some time to the federation to submit its reply, which was accepted by the bench.

The court directed the ministry to submit reply within fifteen days and adjourned hearing of the case.

It may be mentioned here that the petitioner had prayed the court to impose ban over live coverage of speeches of Nawaz Sharif and initiate a contempt of court proceeding against him.
