DUBLIN: World number one Justin Thomas said Sunday that his friend and fellow US PGA Tour pro Bud Cauley was "doing good" despite needing surgery for injuries suffered in a Friday car accident.

Cauley, 28, was a passenger in a car that was involved in a crash in Dublin, Ohio, and was hospitalized in nearby Columbus.

Also injured was Thomas' trainer, Kolby Tullier, and friend James Whis, who was sharing a house with Thomas during the Memorial tournament this week.

All four occupants of the car remained hospitalized on Sunday afternoon.

Cauley suffered five broken right ribs, a collapsed lung and a fracture to his lower left leg.

Thomas said Cauley was "laughing and talking" when he visited him after his third round at the Memorial on Saturday.

"He was doing good yesterday and it calmed me a lot of after seeing him," said Thomas, who posted a final-round 68 on Sunday.

"I couldn't hit a shot yesterday, couldn't play a hole without thinking about him. And my buddy, Whis, who was there as well in the car accident.

"I mean, I'm staying with James Whis this week. So, both of those guys, it's just, it sucks when your best friend's in a serious car accident and there's nothing you can do and nothing he can do.

"Bud is in surgery right now -- surgery got bumped back to today. And I talked to Kolby briefly, our trainer, and he said he was in good spirits this morning."

Cauley's injuries have ruled him out of Monday's US Open qualifier in Columbus as well as next week's tour event in Memphis.
