ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the Senate Sherry Rehman Tuesday underlined the need for summoning Senate session to discuss a statement issued by Secretary Election Commission (ECP).
She said the national print media published a statement of the ECP that “We think that an effort will be made at international level to sabotage the election but it will not be appropriate to give details here”.
She said that the secretary had made the statement before the Senate Standing Committee on Interior on Monday (May 28).
In the session, she said, a motion might be moved under Rules 172(a) & (b) of the Rules of the Procedure and Conduct of the Business in the Senate, 2012, for the constitution of a Committee of the Whole to hold an in-camera briefing to enlighten the committee on the international conspiracy.
Sherry said the purported statement of the Secretary, cast a doubt on the holding of elections within sixty days, as mandated by Article 224, Constitution, 1973.
“It also has serious and far reaching consequences and repercussions as the Secretary have referred to an international conspiracy”, she added.
