KARACHI: The Businessmen Panel (BMP) of Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has contacted leadership of all major political parties in the country to sign a Charter of Economy (CoE) so as to meet national economic targets.

Senior member of the country's business community here on Friday said prior to the next polls in the country all contending parties must present before the masses in general and business community in particular their respective economic programmes.

"In a nutshell these plans must be economic layout, they perceive for the country and which they may follow and comply with for the long term sustainability of the country," said BMP chairman, Mian Anjum Nisar.

He said Charter of Economy is the need of the day to build up the economy and protect the country from a scenario experienced by several other countries devastated due to weak economy.

In-fact strong economy is equally important to retain democracy, highlighting relevance of economic charter as well as envisaged targets.

Mian Anjum Nisar reminded that with the departure of colonial rule, many liberated nations recognized the importance of economic progress and consolidated their governance paving way for their entrance in the club of emerging markets.

"The emergence of China as a global leader in politics and economy in a few decades' time needed to be seriously taken into account by us," he said.

BMP chief reminded that China managed a seamless interface between their socialist model of political governance of state with a free economy which proved to be best suited to their traditions and present-day demands.

The political leadership of Pakistan, he said must join hands in building up the economy of the country as it is critically important for sound survival of the country.

Mian Anjum Nisar said economy of the state and welfare of its people is the joint responsibility of all the legislators who have been voted by the people into the parliament to represent the interest of all segments of society.

Secretary General (Federal) BMP, Ahmad Jawad said most of the problems of our country can be taken care of if there is consensus on economic reforms, policies and continuity is not hindered by any sort of political changes.
