Funeral prayers of Texas school shooting victim Sabika Sheikh were offered on Wednesday morning at Hakeem Saeed Ground, hours after her body finally reached Karachi after a delay.

The funeral prayers were attended by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Shah, Sindh Governer Muhammad Zubair and other government officials and political leaders, along with family members and relatives of the deceased.

Sabika's funeral prayers were given tight security, where police officers were deployed at the ground, local media reported. Sabika was laid to rest at Azimpura graveyard in Shah Faisal Colony.

The 17-year-old Pakistani exchange student's body arrived in Karachi in the wee hours of Wednesday. The body was received by her family members along with American Consulate General of the United States (US) in Karachi, John Warner.

Sabika was an exchange student in the US through Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program. In less than a month, Sabika was expected to return home in Karachi.

Sabika and nine others were shot dead after a student armed with a shotgun and a revolver opened fire at his schoolmates in a Texas high school on Friday. The student was identified as Dimitrios Pagourtzis, a 17-year-old junior in the school.
