OGDCL initiates hydrocarbon production at Khairpur’s exploratory well
- Production is expected to be progressively ramped up as the well flow stabilises, says OGDC
Oil & Gas Development Company Ltd (OGDCL), one of Pakistan’s largest E&P companies, has commenced gas and condensate production from the Bitrism East-1 exploration well in Khairpur, Sindh.
The listed company disclosed the development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday.
The company said the well is currently producing 7.0 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and 200 barrels per day of condensate from the Basal Sands of Lower Goru Formation.
“Production is expected to be progressively ramped up as the well flow stabilises,” the company said.
OGDCL said it has laid an approximately 28-kilometre, 8-inch flowline using in-house resources to connect the well to the Sinjhoro plant for processing. “The processed gas is now being supplied to the SSGCL network, augmenting indigenous gas supplies.”
OGDCL is the operator of the Bitrism Exploration Licence with a 77.5% working interest, in a joint venture with Government Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, which holds the remaining 22.5%.
“The commencement of production from Bitrism East-1 reflects OGDCL’s continued focus on bringing discoveries into production, enhancing domestic hydrocarbon supplies and contributing to Pakistan’s energy security,” said the company.
OGDCL was incorporated on 23 October 1997 under the Companies Ordinance, 1984. The company was established to undertake exploration and development of oil and gas resources, including production and sale of oil and gas and related activities formerly carried on by Oil and Gas Development Corporation, which was established in 1961.
