UN chief arrives in Islamabad on three-day visit

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has arrived in Islamabad on a three-day official visit to Pakistan, from October 6 to 8.
He is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, the Foreign Office said in a statement on Tuesday.
Upon arrival, the UN secretary-general was received by Acting Foreign Secretary Ambassador Nabeel Munir.
During the visit, the UN secretary-general will hold meetings with Pakistan’s leadership, including President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the deputy prime minister and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir.
The UN chief will visit the headquarters of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan and also attend a briefing at the National Disaster Management Authority Pakistan.
Guterres will also have other engagements, during which, Pakistan’s efforts towards strengthening multilateralism, and international peace and security, as well as its strides towards disaster preparedness and early warning will be highlighted.
