KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi has called for greater coordination among the government, private sector, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable use of the province’s coastal and marine resources.

He made these remarks during a meeting with Provincial Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Muhammad Ali Malkani, at the Governor’s House, where participants discussed fisheries development, the blue economy, aqua sports, coastal tourism and public-private partnerships.

Hashmi said Sindh’s extensive coastline and marine resources offer significant opportunities for fisheries, maritime trade, tourism, and other economic activities, particularly through modern technology, investment, and better planning.

He said that responsible management of marine resources was essential alongside efforts to expand economic activity. The development of coastal sectors could generate employment and business opportunities for local communities.

The governor said the government was working to improve facilities, infrastructure and modern techniques for people associated with the fisheries sector and business community.

The meeting also explored investment opportunities in coastal areas through public-private partnerships and discussed measures to promote aqua sports and coastal tourism without compromising the sustainability of natural resources.

Malkani briefed the governor on ongoing initiatives and plans for the fisheries sector. Proposals concerning marine-resource protection, fisheries development, coastal investment and promotion of the blue economy were also reviewed.
