ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday ordered the expansion of Pakistan Asaan Khidmat Centres and directed authorities to accelerate work on new facilities in Muzaffarabad, Gilgit, Skardu, Peshawar and Bannu to provide citizens with faster and more transparent access to government services.
Chairing a meeting on the performance and expansion of the centres, the prime minister directed that immediate steps be taken to establish facilities in Peshawar and Bannu, including a comprehensive plan to set them up in existing federal government buildings.
He also ordered the expansion of the Islamabad centre to be expedited and directed that staff at different counters be increased according to citizens’ needs.
He called for further reductions in service-delivery times and sought the presentation of a third-party audit report on the performance of the Islamabad facility.
The prime minister said citizens should not have to make repeated visits to government offices to obtain public services.
Providing multiple government services under one roof through Asaan Khidmat Centres, he said, was a top government priority.
He directed authorities to speed up work on centres in Muzaffarabad, Gilgit and Skardu so that they could become operational at the earliest.
He also called for similar facilities to be established in other parts of the country in collaboration with the private sector.
The meeting was briefed on the performance and services available at the Islamabad Asaan Khidmat Centre.
More than 171,000 applications had been processed there between January and September, participants were told.
According to the briefing, 99.5 per cent of citizens expressed satisfaction with the services provided at the Islamabad centre, while the average time taken to deliver services ranged from three to 10 minutes.
The prime minister was also briefed on progress towards establishing Pakistan Asaan Khidmat Centres in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by federal ministers Musadik Malik, Ahad Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Shaza Fatima and Tariq Chaudhry, along with senior officials of the relevant departments and organisations.
