KARACHI: Sharjeel Inam Memon, Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, has said that the Sindh government is focusing on industrialisation and investment as key drivers of sustainable economic growth, with Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah scheduled to participate in an investment conference in China next month to explore opportunities for attracting investment into the province.
While talking to media during his visit to Karachi Press Club here on Wednesday, he said that the provincial government also believes that economic and political stability is essential for achieving sustainable economic growth, with greater investment, industrial expansion and policy continuity needed to strengthen Sindh’s economic base.
He said that the present administration is promoting government-to-government and cooperation at all levels for the development of the country. “We want foreign investment to come to Pakistan through modern technology and state-of-the-art companies. Steps are being taken to bring foreign investment to Pakistan and to take it further forward,” he added.
Sindh Senior Minister said that everyone will have to play their role together to take Pakistan forward on the path of development. If Pakistan exists, everything exists; therefore, every citizen will have to play their role in the development of the country, he urged.
He informed that that under Sindh Vision, there is a proposal to hold a mega journalists conference is being scheduled in Tharparkar and Sukkur in November. Through the Sindh Vision programme, an effort will be made to bring together journalists from across the country in Sukkur and Tharparkar and show them the development of the Sindh province.
He said that the project for the construction of 2.1 million houses is also being appreciated at the international level. Under public-private partnership, our projects have been included in the top ten in global rankings. The Sindh government’s various projects have also recognised by the Guinness World Records.
“We are trying to introduce more international-standard projects and events in Sindh. A plan to construct a state-of-the-art stadium in Sukkur is also under consideration, in which the private sector and sponsors will also be included,” he added.
Regarding a question about the meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Mohsin Naqvi, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that some journalists are running reports on the basis of sources that President Zardari and Mohsin Naqvi have met; however, the meeting has not yet been confirmed. If a formal meeting had taken place, an official news report or photograph regarding it would have emerged, he said.
Sharjeel said that the enemies of Pakistan are making efforts to fuel unrest and terrorism in the country. We will have to move forward with national unity and a strong resolve against terrorism. For the development, stability and security of Pakistan, the entire nation will have to unite and play its role.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said that continuous measures are being taken by the Sindh government to provide facilities to the public regarding transport and 1,000 EV buses will reach Karachi soon to provide better travelling facilities to the citizens.
He said that University Road is among the important thoroughfares of Karachi and measures are being taken to improve the flow of traffic on it and all necessary measures are being taken to complete the ongoing work on University Road.
He said that the Pakistan People’s Party has always played its full role for freedom of the press and has rendered prominent services for the welfare of journalists.
Senior Minister said that Pakistan is facing challenges on various fronts in the war against terrorism and the Pakistan Army is playing its role in the defence of the country and the war against terrorism.
Earlier, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon met with the office-bearers of the Press Club and listened to the problems of journalists and assured them of their resolution. President Fazil Jameeli, Secretary General Aslam Khan, former secretary Muhammad Rizwan Bhatti, former President Saeed Sarbazi, senior journalist Mazhar Abbas, Arif Baloch and others were also present.
