KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly has officially sent the draft of a resolution on safeguarding the province’s unity and geographical borders to the federal government.

The assembly secretariat forwarded the document to the President’s House, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, and the principal secretaries of the Senate and the National Assembly.

In the resolution, the Sindh Assembly has clearly stated that Sindh is one and will remain integrated.

The House demanded of the federal government, parliament, all political parties, and state institutions to respect the province’s existing boundaries and avoid any proposals to change them. The resolution said that Sindh’s unity and geographical integrity were above party politics.

It urged the federal government and state institutions to respect the democratic opinion of Sindh’s people.

According to some constitutional experts, the relevant federal institutions were bound to act on this resolution.

Under the rules, the officials concerned must respond to the assembly within 30 days.

If the resolution was not implemented or no reply was received in that time, a privilege motion could be moved in the Sindh Assembly.

The assembly’s Privilege Committee also has the authority to summon the relevant officials.
