ISLAMABAD: The law enforcement agencies (LEAs) on Thursday put in place an extraordinary security and traffic management plan to ensure public safety and the smooth flow of traffic in the city during the Independence Day celebrations on August 14.

According to a senior police official, personnel from the police, the Pakistan Army, Rangers, and the Federal Constabulary have been deployed across the federal capital to maintain tight security. The plan includes patrolling, manning checkpoints, and securing key public areas such as markets and parks, he said.

As per the security plan, with the help of sniffer dogs and security gadgets, police combed the green areas of Daman-e-Koh, Pir Sohawa and Margalla Hills. Police have erected additional police pickets on almost all the city’s major roads. The city has been divided into various security zones for Independence Day, he said.

Under the plan, special squads have been formed. These squads will be stationed at key locations throughout the city and equipped with roadblocks.

Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has devised a comprehensive traffic plan to ensure smooth traffic. According to the plan, entry of heavy traffic into Islamabad will remain prohibited until midnight on August 14. Several roads will remain closed to traffic, while motorists will be diverted to alternative routes.

Traffic on both sides of Islamabad Expressway and Faisal Avenue between Koral Chowk and Khayaban Chowk will remain closed. Motorists travelling from Rawat and Koral towards Islamabad have been advised to use Khanna Pul Loop, Lehtrar Road, Park Road, Rawal Dam Chowk, Murree Road, Serena Hotel, Suhrawardy Road, Jinnah Avenue and Margalla Road.

Motorists travelling from Khayaban Chowk towards Koral have been advised to use Jinnah Avenue, Ninth Avenue, Double Road, Murree Road, Rawal Road and Old Airport Road.

The Faizabad loops towards Faisal Avenue and Islamabad Expressway, the Faizabad Ojri Loop towards the Expressway, and all link roads from Rawal Dam towards Faizabad will remain closed.
