LAHORE: Secretary Food Safety and Consumer Protection Dr Kiran Khurshid has said Rs276 million has been approved for the expansion and rehabilitation of the Badami Bagh vegetable and fruit market, with the work order already issued.
She said the project was scheduled for completion by September 30, 2026. Work on laying RCC sewerage pipelines had been completed, while 75 per cent of the rehabilitation of the 40-foot-wide main RCC road had also been completed.
She added that 40 per cent of the construction and renovation of the eight-foot-high boundary wall had been completed. Dr Khurshid said more than 15 per cent of the construction work on four modern gates and pillars at the Ravi Road vegetable and fruit market had been completed, while 20 per cent of the installation of tuff pavers on pedestrian pathways and parking areas was also complete.
More than 25 per cent of the work to clean the market’s drains and install slabs over them had been completed, she said, adding that construction of the vegetable market’s sub-office building was nearing completion. The secretary said work on installing 70 modern LED streetlights at the Ravi vegetable market would also begin soon.
She said timely completion of the project would provide the vegetable and fruit market with modern facilities and greater convenience for traders and buyers.
