Pakistan on Wednesday rejected what it described as India’s “baseless” statement regarding Islamabad’s recent actions against terrorist infrastructure in Afghanistan, accusing New Delhi of attempting to deflect attention from its own regional conduct.
In a statement issued in response to media queries, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan rejected the Indian Ministry of External Affairs’ June 29 statement on what he termed Pakistan’s “legitimate, targeted and proportionate” actions against terrorist infrastructure in Afghanistan.
The spokesperson alleged that India had historically interfered in the affairs of neighbouring countries and continued to suppress the right to self-determination of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, in violation of relevant United Nations resolutions.
He further accused India of “actively aiding and sponsoring terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil against Pakistan” and said New Delhi continued to play the role of a “regional spoiler.”
“The baseless accusations and inflammatory statements against Pakistan must not be entertained,” the statement said.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, the Foreign Office said the country would continue to take all appropriate measures to safeguard the safety and security of its citizens in accordance with international law.
