Running into the third week of its release, Luv Ranjan’s 'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety' has surpassed Akshay Kumar’s 'PadMan' at the box office, becoming the second highest grosser of the year with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 'Padmaavat' ruling at the top.

Business analyst and movie critic Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and posted the figures on Sunday. The movie, with a budget of INR 240 million, has collected over 100 times more on the box office.

Bollywood small budget film ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ rocks at box office

'SKTKS' is Ranjan’s fifth film as a director and stars Nushrat Bharucha, Kartik Aaryan and Sunny Singh. Despite the fact that the rom-com does not feature any of the industry’s big names, the flick has managed to win hearts of the audience.

In talks with the Indian Express, Ranjan has owed the film’s achievement to its content, introducing the Bromance Vs Romance plot, which is a rarity in Bollywood cinema. He also added that a film can do big without starring big names.

With Ajay Devgan’s 'Raid' opening this weekend and Anushka Sharma’s 'Pari' running across cinemas, 'SKTKS' is expected to collect well in the upcoming weeks.
