RAWALPINDI: Ten members of a family were killed and 13 others injured when a passenger van plunged into a ravine and caught fire on the Islamabad–Murree Expressway on Wednesday.

According to police and eyewitnesses, the van carrying 23 passengers veered off the road near Khajut and fell into a ravine before bursting into flames. The tragic incident claimed the lives of 10 people and left 13 others, including women and children, injured.

Rescue teams and police rushed to the scene and retrieved the victims from the wreckage. The injured and the bodies of the deceased were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), while some of the injured were taken to a private hospital for treatment and identification procedures.

A senior official of PIMS said that 10 bodies had been shifted to PIMS, where the administration had initiated the process of identifying the deceased and contacting their families.
