Karachi’s New Sabzi Mandi: One-window facilitation desk for transporters being established
KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to establish a special one-window facilitation desk at Karachi’s New Sabzi Mandi at Super Highway to streamline services for transporters and accelerate the digitalisation of commercial transport operations across the province.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Sindh Transport and Mass Transit Department, here on Tuesday, which was presided by Senior Minister Sarjeel Inam Memon - who holds portfolios of Information, Transport and Mass Transit.
Memon directed relevant institutions to take immediate steps for the establishment and operationalisation of the facility.
He said the facilitation desk would provide transporters with easier access to route permits, fitness certificates and other essential transport-related documents, including their issuance and renewal, under a single platform.
He said the initiative aimed to bring the maximum number of commercial and freight vehicles operating in and around the metropolis into the Sindh government’s digital and automated transport management system by June 30, 2026.
He said the move would help ensure compliance with legal requirements, improve service delivery for transport operators and support the achievement of departmental targets for the fiscal year 2025-26.
Officials informed the meeting that the facilitation desk would be made fully operational during the current week. Necessary arrangements, including the deployment of staff, installation of information banners and issuance of public notices, were being completed to create awareness among transporters.
He said the Sindh government was moving rapidly toward its vision of complete digitalisation of public services and the transport sector.
He added that the establishment of the desk at New Sabzi Mandi would save transporters from making repeated visits to multiple offices while reducing processing times and administrative costs.
The Senior Minister noted that the introduction of digital route permits and fitness certificates would further improve efficiency, transparency and convenience for freight transport operators, particularly those entering Karachi from different parts of the country.
