Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi on Friday inaugurated the 1,296th annual Urs of revered Sufi saint Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi (RA), offering prayers for Pakistan’s prosperity, peace and national unity while highlighting the importance of the saint’s teachings of tolerance and service to humanity.

The ceremony was held at the shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi in Karachi’s Clifton area and was attended by officials from the Auqaf Department, Urs organisers, devotees and other dignitaries.

During the inauguration, the Governor offered Fateha and laid a floral wreath at the saint’s shrine. He also offered special prayers for the country’s development, public welfare, stability and harmony among Muslims.

Hashmi later reviewed arrangements made for thousands of devotees visiting the shrine, including security, cleanliness and public facilities. He interacted with worshippers and praised their participation in the annual gathering, describing it as a reflection of the deep spiritual connection people maintain with Sufi traditions.

Accompanied by senior Auqaf officials, the Governor distributed clothes among underprivileged families and stressed the importance of supporting vulnerable segments of society.

“Serving those in need is both a social and moral responsibility,” he said, adding that such occasions help strengthen the values of compassion, welfare and community solidarity.

Speaking to the media, Hashmi said the teachings of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi (RA) continue to inspire messages of love, tolerance, brotherhood and service to humanity, the values he said were essential for promoting peace and social harmony.
