KARACHI: Governor Sindh Syed Mohammed Nehal Hashmi said Karachi’s hospitality leaves a lasting impression on foreign diplomats, describing the experience as a memory they carry for life when departing the city. He was speaking at a farewell reception hosted in honour of outgoing British Deputy High Commissioner Lance Gavin Domm at Acton House, the residence of the British Deputy High Commission in Karachi.

The event was attended by several prominent political and diplomatic figures, including Faryal Talpur, Minister of State Fahad Haroon, MNA Sharmila Farooqui, Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Rajivir Singh Sodha, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister, MPA Muhammad Qasim Soomro, former MPA Nand Kumar Goklani, senior politician Jam Karam Ali, Prince Jam Qaim Ali, Jam Farooq, diplomats and members of Karachi’s social and business circles.

Governor Hashmi said Pakistan and the United Kingdom share a longstanding friendship rooted in cooperation and mutual respect. He extended best wishes to Lance Domm for his new diplomatic assignment in Australia and expressed confidence that the outgoing envoy would continue to succeed in his future role. “Diplomats serving in Karachi experience a level of warmth and hospitality that is difficult to find anywhere else in the world,” the governor said. adding that such connections strengthen people-to-people ties between nations.

Speaking on the occasion, Lance Domm highlighted the close relationship between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, saying bilateral trade between the two countries had reached nearly £80 billion and could expand further through stronger economic cooperation. He also pointed to the role of cricket and educational exchanges in bringing the two countries closer, noting that thousands of Pakistani students are studying and working in Britain. “The two countries enjoy excellent relations across multiple sectors,” Domm said, while emphasizing the importance of continued engagement between the people of both nations. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the outgoing deputy high commissioner thanked the staff of the British Deputy High Commission for their support and cooperation during his tenure in Karachi.
