KARACHI: The Sindh government on Friday pledged to make the high-profile arrest of alleged drug dealer Anmol, alias “Pinky”, a “role model” case in its campaign against narcotics, as lawmakers in the provincial assembly raised sharp questions about drug cartels operating with apparent impunity across the province.
Home Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar assured the house that the investigation into Pinky was proceeding in full force. “Pinky has been arrested, and that is commendable. Police officers who provided her protocol have been suspended. If further arrests are needed, I will order them,” he said.
Hec added that Sindh Police nabbed the suspect with intelligence agency support and had secured an extended remand for detailed interrogation. “Once the investigation is complete, I will share the details myself. If naming individuals is required, I request the Speaker’s permission to do so.”
Sindh Information Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon reinforced the government’s stance, dismissing the matter as mere political point-scoring. “The buying and selling of drugs is a matter of grave concern. We launched the strictest campaign. When I was Excise Minister, I said every MPA should consider themselves the minister for narcotics,” he said.
“This is not just Sindh’s issue — it is a global problem. Everyone must play their part. We need to eliminate the drug network from Sindh. The arrest of Pinky is our commitment. Drug dealers have been killed and arrested, and there is a long list of names from various sectors.
