ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf on Wednesday warned of emerging maritime security threats linked to the ongoing Middle East situation, including risks to freedom of navigation, strategic choke-points and vital Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs), as the Pakistan Navy reviewed its operational preparedness during the Command and Staff Conference at Naval Headquarters.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the conference was chaired by Admiral Naveed Ashraf and attended by Principal Staff Officers and Field Commanders.

The naval chief stressed the need to maintain perpetual combat readiness against both traditional and non-traditional threats in the maritime domain, saying the evolving regional environment required the acquisition of niche and cutting-edge technologies as a strategic necessity for the Pakistan Navy.

Referring to the security situation in the wider region, Admiral Ashraf noted growing concerns surrounding maritime stability, particularly across strategic choke-points and key international shipping routes amid tensions in the Middle East.

He reiterated that the Pakistan Navy continued to play a pivotal role in ensuring regional maritime security and stability, adding that the force was providing assurance to the maritime community through its operational presence in the Gulf of Oman (GOO).

The forum also commemorated the first anniversary of “Marka-e-Haq”, paying tribute to the sacrifices made during the May 2025 conflict. The naval chief described the outcome of the conflict as a historic triumph reflecting national unity and resolve against external aggression.

The conference undertook a comprehensive review of operational preparedness, ongoing initiatives and future plans, with discussions focusing on aligning naval priorities with evolving regional maritime security requirements across multiple domains of naval warfare.

The Command and Staff Conference is regarded as the apex decision-making forum of the Pakistan Navy where senior naval leadership deliberates on strategic priorities, operational policies and future force posture.
