Dar discusses peace efforts with Iranian counterpart

  • Iran again appreciates Pakistan for the constructive role and sincere mediation efforts

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss the regional situation and Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts for peace and stability in the region, the Foreign Office (FO) said on Monday.

The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued commitment to promoting constructive engagement.

“He underscored that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path toward peaceful resolution of issues and achieving lasting peace and stability in the region and beyond,” the FO said.

Negotiations between the US and Iran had been deadlocked since a ceasefire brokered by Pakistan, came into effect on April 8.

The development came after Islamabad held one round of talks in the country.

Meanwhile, the Iranian FM once again appreciated Pakistan for it mediation efforts.

Moreover, Iran said on Sunday it had received a US response to its latest offer for peace talks, a day after President Donald Trump said he would probably reject the Iranian proposal because “they have not paid a big enough price”.

Iranian state media reported that Washington had conveyed its response to Iran’s 14-point proposal via Pakistan, and that Tehran was now reviewing it.
