Party tickets for G-B polls: Parliamentary board of PPP conducts interviews to select candidates
ISLAMABAD: The parliamentary board of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) conducted interviews to select candidates for party tickets from the districts of Gilgit, Diamer, and Ghizer for the upcoming general elections in Gilgit-Baltistan, scheduled to be held on June 7, 2026.
A meeting of the PPP parliamentary board was held under the chairpersonship of Faryal Talpur. Senior party leaders, including Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Nadeem Afzal Chan, and former Gilgit-Baltistan governor Qamar Zaman Kaira, along with other board members, attended the meeting.
The session witnessed active participation from party leadership and board members. Candidates, during their interviews, separately presented detailed briefings on their political work, public outreach, and contributions to the party in their respective constituencies.
The party leadership said that the large number of applicants reflects the PPP’s strong popularity and organizational strength in Gilgit-Baltistan, attributing public support to the party’s pro-people policies. They reiterated that ticket allocation would be based on merit, loyalty, public service, and electability to ensure success in the upcoming polls.
The leaders further said that the government of the PPP has consistently introduced historic reforms and development initiatives in Gilgit-Baltistan. They said that in particular, measures such as the Gilgit-Baltistan Empowerment and Self-Governance Order 2009 played a key role in empowering the region, strengthening local representation, and improving the administrative structure.
They added that significant progress has also been made in the sectors of education, health, infrastructure, road construction, and the creation of employment and development opportunities for youth.
On the occasion, Faryal Talpur said that the PPP is the true representative party of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, and that the party leadership highly values the sacrifices and services of its workers.
She added that the PPP has always taken practical steps toward resolving public issues, strengthening democracy, and ensuring the development of the region.
She further said that the leadership of the PPP, particularly under the guidance of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, is continuing to advance its agenda of public service, transparent governance, and development.
She added that the party will enter the upcoming elections with full preparation and determination.
