ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari paid rich tributes to the Poet of the East, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, describing him as a visionary thinker whose ideas continue to guide the intellectual and ideological foundations of Pakistan.

In his message on the occasion of the death anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the President said that Allama Iqbal was not only a great poet but also a philosopher, reformer, and a guiding intellectual force who inspired the Muslims of the subcontinent at a time of decline and uncertainty. He said Iqbal’s message revived a spirit of self-respect, confidence, and purposeful struggle among the Muslim Ummah.

President Zardari noted that Iqbal’s thought represents a unique synthesis of Eastern and Western intellectual traditions, presenting a forward-looking vision of society based on justice, dignity, and the full development of human potential. He said that Iqbal’s ideas remain highly relevant in the contemporary world, particularly in the context of social justice and the moral development of societies.

Highlighting Iqbal’s concern for economic fairness, the President said that the Poet of the East strongly emphasized the dignity of labour and the need for equitable distribution of resources. He said that Iqbal’s philosophy continues to serve as a guiding framework for building a just and balanced socio-economic system.

President Zardari further observed that in a world facing conflict, division, and uncertainty, Iqbal’s message of hope, justice, and moral strength holds renewed importance. He said Iqbal taught that lasting peace can only be achieved through inner reform, ethical conduct, and the strengthening of character.

He said Iqbal’s philosophy addresses all segments of society, especially the youth, whom he encouraged to embrace ambition, discipline, and self-belief. The President added that Iqbal also emphasized the dignified and active role of women in society, the importance of purposeful education for students, and honesty and self-reliance for all citizens.
