The civilian-military leadership of the country deserves a lot of praise for continue to making hectic efforts towards achieving peace in the region at the earliest. Not only has Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has met Qatar’s emir in Doha, the army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir has also held meetings with the Iranian leadership, including Majles Speaker Baqer Qalibaf, in Tehran.
Their travel to different countries in the region is a clear push by Islamabad for a second round of peace talks between Washington and Tehran. Insofar as Qatar is concerned, the sheikhdom is a key supplier of LNG to Asian nations, including Pakistan, where significant power load-shedding is being carried out due to LNG supply disruptions.
There are reports that power supply situation in the country is likely to worsen in the absence of resumption of energy supplies from the Gulf. Without an iota of doubt, the situation underscores the need for more and more de-escalation efforts to ensure the security and stability of the region. Restoration of peace in the region is also critical to ensuring the maintenance of smooth flow of energy supplies. Be that as it may, peace is now very much in sight.
