LAHORE: The Lahore High Court held that the husband was bound to pay Haq Mehr on his wife’s demand even if the time for the payment of the amount had not been specified in the Nikah Nama.

The court observed that Mehr was the bride’s special and legal right, which could be in the form of cash or property or both.

The court passed this order in a petition of Fatima Bibi seeking court order to her husband to pay her Haq Mehr.

The court observed that the family court’s ruling on the payment of dowry was right. However, the appellant court had erred in its decision regarding dower, the court added. The petitioner contended that the appellant court’s decision denying her the payment of Haq Mehr was incorrect which amount to injustice to her.
