ISLAMABAD: The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday warned of a potential regional crisis, urging the government to convene an urgent summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to prevent what it described as a “foreign-engineered conflict” in the Muslim world.

In a statement, PTI spokesman Sheikh Waqas Akram accused the US and Israel of “unprovoked attacks on Iran” and urged immediate diplomatic intervention to prevent wider chaos in the Middle East.

“Such military actions risk destabilising the region and have serious implications for global peace and economic stability,” he added.

Akram urged the immediate release of Imran Khan, calling him the only leader with the credibility to guide the Muslim Ummah and rally the OIC in this historic crisis.

Slamming Khan’s incarceration as a blatant violation of his legal and constitutional rights, he emphasized that only Khan can use such a platform to unite the Muslim world, seek lasting solutions to escalating conflicts, and thwart attempts to sow division within the Ummah.

According to the party, Khan has now spent roughly 952 days behind bars, including 130 in solitary confinement.

Akram said that negligence in custody has caused partial vision loss in Khan’s right eye and demanded his transfer to Shifa International Hospital for specialised treatment under the supervision of his personal doctors.

He rejected any medical board appointed by the government without Khan’s own physicians present.

He also turned a critical eye on the government’s handling of state assets, demanding full disclosure regarding the Rs11 billion Gulfstream aircraft reportedly sent to Vienna for “technical inspection,” including passenger lists and logbooks.
