ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Index-based inflation for the week ending March 11, 2026, increased by 1.89 percent, mainly due to a 20.60 percent rise in petrol prices and a 19.54 percent increase in diesel prices.
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistic (PBS), on a Week on Week (WoW) basis, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) price went up by 12.13 percent, onions 9.63 percent, bananas 1.44 percent, wheat flour 1.28 percent, chicken 0.66 percent, Pulse Mash 0.55 percent, firewood 0.38 percent, pulse gram 0.10 percent, fresh milk 0.08 percent, and cooked beef 0.02 percent.
On WoW basis, a decline is witnessed in the prices of tomatoes3.66percent, potatoes 2.86 percent, garlic 0.42 percent, Rice IRRI-6/9 and pulse masoor0.19 percent each, mustard oil 0.16 percent, pulse moong 0.12 percent, and sugar 0.09 percent.

During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 14 items, or 27.45 percent, witnessed an increase, the prices of 09 items, or17.65 percent, recorded a reduction and prices of 28 items, or 54.90 percent, remained stable.
On year on year (YoY) basis, the SPI recorded an increase of 6.44 percent owing to a 29.94 percent increase in Diesel price, gas charges for Q1 29.85 percent, LPG 29.21 percent, wheat flour 27.75 percent, petrol 25.75 percent, chilies powder 15.20 percent, beef 12 percent, powdered milk 10.10 percent, mutton 9.61 percent, gur 7.10 percent, rice basmati broken 6.51 percent and cooked beef 5.17 percent.
While on a YoY basis, a major decrease is recorded in the prices of Potatoes 51.92 percent, chicken 25.92 percent, eggs 23.76 percent, tomatoes 23.02 percent, pulse gram 19.76 percent, garlic 18.25 percent, salt powder 12.52 percent and sugar 12.02 percent.
The SPI for the lowest consumption group with a monthly income of up to Rs 17,732,with an increase of 0.66 percent,went up from 323.48 points to 325.62 points.
The SPI for the consumption group with a monthly income of Rs17,733–22,888 witnessed an increase of 0.94 percent from 325.48 points to 328.55 points.
The SPI for the consumption group with a monthly income of Rs22,889–29,517 increased by 1.12 percent as the SPI went up from 346.32 points to 350.21 points.
For the consumption group with a monthly income of Rs 29,518–44,175, it went up by 1.50 percent from 333.05 points to 338.06 points, and for the consumption group with a monthly income of Rs44,175 and above, the SPI registered an increase of 2.49 percent from 333 points to 341.28 points.
