ISLAMABAD: Reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship, the Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) Tuesday launched a major tree plantation initiative at Islamabad International Airport Pakistan (IIAP), with support from Coca-Cola Pakistan.

Under the initiative, climate-resilient, indigenous trees will be planted across designated areas within the airport complex, further strengthening Islamabad’s green cover and supporting the Government of Pakistan’s national environmental drive.

The initiative was formally launched by Aftab Gilani, Chief Operating Officer IIAP, alongside Sami Wahid, Country Head of Coca-Cola Pakistan & Dr. Faisal Hashmi Sr. Director Coca-Cola Pakistan & Afghanistan and the ceremonial plantation of the first tree near Project area. Speaking on the occasion, Aftab Gilani, COO IIAP, said, “As the capital’s primary gateway, Islamabad International Airport plays a symbolic and functional role in representing Pakistan. Through this initiative, PAA aims to position IIAP as a model for sustainable airport operations, blending aviation excellence with environmental responsibility while complementing Islamabad’s scenic backdrop of the Margalla Hills and its planned urban landscape. We value the support of partners like Coca-Cola Pakistan who share this vision and contribute meaningfully to its realization.”

Sami Wahid, Country Head, Coca-Cola Pakistan, expressed support for PAA’s leadership, stating: “We are pleased to support Pakistan Airports Authority in this important initiative. Airports are the first impression of a country, and by contributing to this green effort, we are supporting PAA’s vision of presenting a sustainable and environmentally responsible Pakistan to the world.”

Dr. Faisal Hashmi, Senior Director of Public Affairs, Communications, & Sustainability at Coca-Cola Pakistan, added: “This collaboration demonstrates how private-sector support can complement public-sector leadership in building infrastructure. We are proud to contribute to PAA’s efforts to make airports more environmentally friendly hubs for travellers.”

In 2024, The Coca Cola Foundation (TCCF) supported the Recharge Pakistan Project, which aims to transform the country’s approach to flood and water resource management by implementing solutions across local watershed sites in the Indus Basin river system.
