ISLAMABAD: The United States (US) on Thursday condemned the suicide attack at Khadijat-ul-Kubra Imambargah during Friday prayer in the federal capital and the terrorist attack in Quetta, expressing solidarity with the victims and their families.
US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs John Mark Pomeroy conveyed the condemnation during a meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad.
US Ambassador Natalie Baker and the Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry were also present.
Pomeroy expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives in the terrorist attack and reiterated that the US places great importance on its relationship with Pakistan. During the meeting, both sides discussed Pakistan–US bilateral relations, the regional security situation, and ways to strengthen counterterrorism cooperation, particularly in the area of internal security. They also agreed to promote investment and expand partnerships in the mining, minerals, and energy sectors. Naqvi emphasized that global cooperation is vital in combating terrorism and described Pakistan’s relationship with the US as crucial in this regard. He welcomed US investment in key sectors and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fostering international partnerships to eliminate terrorism and encourage economic growth.
Interior minister assured that American investors would be provided with a secure and conducive environment for investment in Pakistan.
