ISLAMABAD: Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa (retd) has been admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) following injuries sustained in a fall at his residence, the military’s media wing confirmed on Thursday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a brief statement, noting that Bajwa, 62, is currently receiving medical care at the CMH in Rawalpindi.

Military sources disclosed that Bajwa suffered a head injury after falling in his bathroom at around 4:30am on Tuesday. He was quickly transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) for treatment.

Bajwa served as COAS from 2016 until his retirement in November 2022, completing a full six-year term.

He was first appointed to the role by then-prime minister Nawaz Sharif. After his initial three-year term, Bajwa was granted another three-year extension by the then prime minister Imran Khan, who is now facing legal challenges and imprisonment.

Prior to leading the army, Bajwa held several significant positions, including Inspector General of Training and Evaluation at General Headquarters (GHQ) and General Staff Officer in the 10 Corps. He also commanded a United Nations mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
